NPR’s This I believe: The Magic of Letters

This I believe: The Magic of Letters is an essay written by Chameli Waiba who learned to read when she was 21 years old. Her essay is published/read in National Public Radio’s – This  I believe. How cool is that?

Truly an inspiration – my inspiration – everyone’s inspiration – especially those who dedicated in ABE education.

The web 101 beginner? Intermediate? or Advanced?

December is the time for Social Networking  here at https://nyjoomla.wordpress.com. I am hoping to connect to everyone who has the time to sit, relax, party, and blog.  The holiday season is in the air and the constant reminder of “Give love on Xmas day!”  should do the trick. Beside this time of year is where most of the working force can get their needed long holiday breaks – another family time of the year.

Profile thyself, thou techie!

RGB connector

RGB Connector, a Male or a Female?

They called me techie .

My sample computer basic lab exercise is considered techie.

For some reasons, the word techie now gets in to my nerve. I’m no longer comfortable being called or  labeled as techie.

Am I really that sensitive? What is it now?  Lobby to congress to include techie word as derogatory?

But the techie description in the sense described is much more on like saying, “you are so poetic!” or “you are so deep”  or “you are full of…” and that is because on how people convey information.

The bottom line, I used techie words. What they don’t know is that these words called techie words are to be learned. These words did not come to us in a magical or special way. It is hard work to learn new things but sometimes you have to and without knowing years later – you are a techie person or an IT.

In the summer of 2000, right after the kindergartners’ graduation, the school gave us packets and educational materials, the aspiring first grader should know or should be familiar with.

The packet included pages of word list used in technology. The heading says, WORDS IN TECHNOLOGY YOUR FIRST GRADER SHOULD KNOW. The list  I remember includes: hardware, software, mouse, keyboard, operating system, applications, Read-only Memory, Random Access Memory, files, folders, file name and more – that was 2000.

Time for a new career: A reflection

Economic downturn; lay offs in the workplaces which is somehow quarterly occurrences are not the only reasons why somebody has to think on “Time for a new career” or change tactics and strategies.

Just in time, I stumbled upon this blog entry:

I have been wanting to be a web site designer for like 7 years now. I love putting a site together, the creative part – the layout and art and stuff. But to be any good and worth any money I need to learn the more technical end of it, like how to make e-commerce sites, forms, message boards and all that kind of stuff. I need to learn things like Mysql and perl and php and xml and dhtml and so many other things that I just have no clue about. So while I am looking around for a school that I can dream about going to (because I will probably never actually get to go and even if I did – I am notorious for not finishing anything) anyway…
A friend of Don’s introduced me to this software called joomla, it’s a cms – content management software. So it’s supposed to be fairly easy to use and learn and it’s been a real lifesaver for him and he makes beautiful sites using it. I got all excited thinking this could be the edge I need to really make web site design into an actual career where people pay me for the work I do. Then I got into trying to figure it out. I haven’t felt so not-smart and out of my element in as long as I can remember. It’s so far over my head it’s laughable. What in the world ever led me to think that because I can put a pretty site together that does some basic button functions, that I could really be a killer web designer?????
What a joke that is. Time to find a different field of work. B
