Joomla! is always be associated with MySQL because MySQL is the open source database that Joomla! is using. In other words, MySQL is behind Joomla’s power. So, seeing a headline like this one http://www.mysql.com/news-and-events/sun-to-acquire-mysql.html will be noticeable. In addition, OpenOffice as we all know is maintained by the same company that as the article reads,

(NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MySQL AB, an open source icon and developer of one of the world’s fastest growing open source databases for approximately $1 billion in total consideration. The acquisition accelerates Sun’s position in enterprise IT to now include the $15 billion database market. Today’s announcement reaffirms Sun’s position as the leading provider of platforms for the Web economy and its role as the largest commercial open source contributor.

It was in the early months of 2006 when I heard about phpNewyork.org website. I browse around the website but I never paid much attention of the announcements about conferences and expos because I was just starting with PHP.
Actually, if I could remember that historic event correctly, it was the moment when I was struggling in the installation process where I have to configure PHP and MySQL so they could communicate with each other in the arena of my Apache webserver.
Fast forward, year 2007 came. Once again, I became active in participating the Joomla! community. Since I bookmarked the thread where I found about phpNewyork, I came back and decided that now is the time to have a link. Who knows, I might be able to join them soon.
