Time for a new career: A reflection

Economic downturn; lay offs in the workplaces which is somehow quarterly occurrences are not the only reasons why somebody has to think on “Time for a new career” or change tactics and strategies.

Just in time, I stumbled upon this blog entry:

I have been wanting to be a web site designer for like 7 years now. I love putting a site together, the creative part – the layout and art and stuff. But to be any good and worth any money I need to learn the more technical end of it, like how to make e-commerce sites, forms, message boards and all that kind of stuff. I need to learn things like Mysql and perl and php and xml and dhtml and so many other things that I just have no clue about. So while I am looking around for a school that I can dream about going to (because I will probably never actually get to go and even if I did – I am notorious for not finishing anything) anyway…
A friend of Don’s introduced me to this software called joomla, it’s a cms – content management software. So it’s supposed to be fairly easy to use and learn and it’s been a real lifesaver for him and he makes beautiful sites using it. I got all excited thinking this could be the edge I need to really make web site design into an actual career where people pay me for the work I do. Then I got into trying to figure it out. I haven’t felt so not-smart and out of my element in as long as I can remember. It’s so far over my head it’s laughable. What in the world ever led me to think that because I can put a pretty site together that does some basic button functions, that I could really be a killer web designer?????
What a joke that is. Time to find a different field of work. B

My Joomla! News blog has said it all

I’ve noticed lately that “My Joomla! News blog has said it all” link is automatically generated and visible to almost all of my entries. And I wonder why?

Here is what I wrote at that time:

I’ve been in this blog couple of times and read his very interesting views about Joomla! My visit may not be as often as I wanted to, but often, I bump into the MyJoomla!(TM)News blog because our entries are in the wordpress tag page together.

Joomla! forum was back but then

I am not really sure when the Joomla! forum came back but when it did I received the message below.

General Error

SQL ERROR [mysql4]
Too many connections [1040]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

And…oh! Joomla! is now using PHPBB. So bye bye Simple Machines LLC (SMF). I wonder why change? For sure I can read this in the Joomla forum when this connection error is fixed.
